‘I LOVE SEEING PEOPLE LEARN TO BACK THEMSELVES, CONFIDENT AND MOVING FORWARD. TO SEE PEOPLE ACHIEVING THEIR GOALS AND THAT ‘YESSSS’ MOMENT MAKES ME UNBELIEVABLY PROUD’

In the early days, my leadership style didn’t fit any of the documented styles. What is now known as collaborative, transformational leadership fuelled by high levels of emotional intelligence, heart and authenticity was seen as fluffy, loose and flippant. I naturally launch into every challenge and tackle any question from a position of ‘brand first’. I lead with my heart, am highly collaborative, transparent, straight to the point, a chronic communicator, pathological question asker and love to win. I trust my gut and go for it, firmly focussed on the big goal at the time. I don’t think there can be a separation in personal and professional values, and I cannot understand people claiming they are different at work than at home. The notion of ‘never say what you really think in a meeting’ has always baffled me.

An honest, empathetic and respectful No ‘BS’ approach to business transformation. This is Karen Matthews.

WE ALL HAVE THOSE MOMENTS OF ‘WHY ME’ AND ‘THIS ISN’T FAIR’, BUT IT IS WHAT YOU DO WITH THOSE CURVE BALLS THAT DEFINE YOUR LONG-TERM SUCCESS.

With a glass half full mindset – no matter what, I navigated a successful corporate career whilst juggling motherhood and plenty of life’s challenges. Despite being knocked down in monumental proportions on several occasions, I consistently picked myself up, learnt from every experience and powered forward with the belief that everything happens for a reason. One experience (good or bad) will lead to the next opportunity. Mental strength and determination is one of my superpowers.

As a Mum, I have always encouraged my kids to go for it, back themselves, speak up, and fight for what they believe in. Nothing makes me prouder than seeing them proud of themselves. To see their confidence and belief in who they are grow, and to see them carving their own style, is inspiring.
Bella and Harry are my world and to be able to role model my belief and value system for them, in living colour, is hopefully something they will remember, tell their kids, and maybe write on their websites sometime in the future.
